We are proud to announce official licensure through the Ohio Mental Health and Addiction Services for Stark Adult Recovery Program (STAR) at Stark County Jail in Canton, Ohio.

STAR began treating participants on March 27, 2022, and uses VitalCore Health Strategies employed licensed master’s counselors. These counselors utilize evidence-based treatment modalities through the Hazelden Curriculum A New Direction. This program assesses a participant’s readiness to change, develops individualized treatment plans, and elicits necessary behavior change. Upon release from jail, each participant will have an individualized discharge plan which includes length and type of aftercare as determined by licensed behavioral health professionals. All individuals are linked to services within their community to promote success through continuity of care. The program length is minimum 30 days. While in residence, participants are treated by the VitalCore Health Strategies medical and behavioral health team. This ensures treatment of co-occurring medical and behavioral health disorders, as well as access to medication assisted treatment for opioid use disorders.

Program participants are court ordered to attend as part of sentencing for criminal offense. They must meet jail classification requirements to be accepted and comply with jail rules during the program.

The evidence-based program that we utilize predicts that our participants will have increased success if we produce an environment that is therapeutic. The Jail Administration has provided a remodeled housing area with softer colors, enhanced meal plan, safe and comfortable furnishings, elective weekend programming, resource library and movies, and washer/dryer facilities. To promote continued success upon release participants attend a monthly resource fair. During the resource fair, community partners meet with our participants to connect them with resources such as housing, job opportunities, and family supports.
